Social video is all about relationships. So are trim tabs.

People who have a truly new thought, or take an action that moves in a new direction, do so in some context. That context is called “Relationship.” Social videos create those relationships with new customers and deepen relationships with existing customers based on shared values.  These clusters of customers with shared values – trim tabs all – become your community, your raving fans, and the way values-driven business can do well and do good simultaneously.

In our first blog about trim tabs, we called Rosa Parks a trim tab. Our mainstream history recalls her as a single individual taking a spontaneous, heroic act by refusing to move to the back of the bus. That action catalyzed the Montgomery bus boycott and the 20th century civil rights movement. No small feat. In fact, Rosa Parks acted within the context of rich, deep relationships.  She had already worked with the NAACP for 12 years before taking that trim tab action. She had much support both in her community and within that organization.  If social media were then what they are today, we might have known that.

TrimTab Media might have even produced a social video about the Rosa Parks story!

That’s why if you, your business, or your employees are taking steps outside the box – tiny steps or big steps – steps that perhaps include sustainable business practices, community projects, or outstanding employee contributions – all trim tab activities – it’s vital that those stories be told using social videos. Authentic social video stories engage online audiences with original, useful and entertaining content.

Real people want to connect with real people. Social videos put a human face on your brand.

Think Paul and Nell Newman of Newman’s dressings, cookies, and tomato sauces. If your marketing strategy is built around authentic storytelling, you stand a chance to cut through the advertising clutter that currently floods our online experience. And through the transparency and inspiration they can provide, social videos can help to create, as Peter Senge says,“a critical mass of unstoppable changes…”

And business can become a driving force for the health and sustainability for the planet and its people. No small feat.
